Many people during their childhood will dream of becoming a doctor and helping others when they grow up. I was one of those kids who have always wanted to become a doctor. It was not until the summer of 2011, that I decided what I wanted to pursue as a career. I took AP Biology during my sophomore year and became instantly hooked on learning about the human body. After finishing my sophomore year, I job shadowed a plastic surgeon at the University of Washington Medical Center. Both of the experiences cumulated and reinforced my goal in becoming a surgeon in the future.
I dream is to pursue my goals at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. My choice of study and work will not only benefit myself but also many other people. The most important reason why I want to pursue a career in medicine is to make a difference in other people’s lives. The surgery that I observed during my job shadow was a double bilateral mastectomy. I was amazed at how the surgeons were so determined to successfully complete the surgery. I want to be able to change someone’s life for the better using my knowledge and skills in medicine.
Medicine is an important part to improving our society. Before the establishment of modern medicine and medical practices, people practiced improper medical techniques and many people died from diseases that are easily curable today. The rise of technology and science has saved the lives of many patients. The medical field interests me more than any other career because doctors are able to bond with their patients and give a hand in saving the patient’s life. I have set out my goals to pursue a career in the medical field and to help change the lives of others.
