Self-awareness entails how accurate one can assess his/her emotions and develop self-confidence. This is the foundation of all the other pillars of emotional intelligence since it opens the broader perspective of personal recognition. It can be described as reflecting what is happening rather than indulging in to a situation ignorantly which my lead to losing of control.
Self-management calls for an individual to develop self-control of emotions, transparency, adaptability, achievement, initiative and optimism traits in life . The main idea in this component is how you behave when you encounter situations, do we react or respond. Reacting is inclined to poor emotional control while responding engages the rational thinking of the brain hence appropriate for sound decisions.
Socials awareness encompasses empathy rather than sympathy, service orientation and organizational awareness. Social awareness allows a person to take personal responsibility even when situations are not favoring them instead of ducking or escaping for cover-up from somebody else (Papadogiannis, P. et al. 2009). To improve on this component individual should come up with strategies for acquiring feedback from their core workers.
Relationship management is at a higher order of the emotional intelligences, which calls for individual skills upgrading, develop character of conflict resolution, being able to inspire and influence other, being a positive change icon and enhancing teamwork among the stakeholders.
These four components are interrelated and often overlap to give an impression of a person who has developed emootional intelligence. A manager is expected to develop higher emotional intelligence in comparison with his juniors to be able to guide and handle their problems. As a manager the most important component to develop in the emotional intelligent is the relationship management. Conflict management is a vital skill that all managers should have to be able to deal with hurdles that arise due to negative emotion. In an organization, conflicts are inevitable and hence the need to formulate the best way to solve them (Leon, N. 2008). A manager who as relationship management intelligence will be skyrocket the social interaction that plays a great deal in organizational achievement.
Managers are expected to realize changes that must be implemented in an organization for better achievements and be the leading force of the changes (Feldman, J. & Mulle, K. 2008). Those managers who resist changes, or do not have the skills to deal with change resistance will end up toppling the organization instead of expanding it. Moreover the realization of an organizations goals and it success is dependent on the influence of the manager to the juniors and their support to his ideas or strategies. Worker loyalty to their higher authority is base on the relationship they have with the manager. An inspiring manager, will in no doubt be able to create an environment of team working whose benefit is all that the firm needs – maximum product for higher profits.
