Jean-Dominique Bauby was a renowned French author, editor and journalist for the popular French fashion magazine the ELLE (Magazine) that was founded in France in 1945. A movie based on his life titled "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" was released in 2007 with the aim of highlighting his life immediately after he suffered stoke, with the plot of the movie mainly revolving to his life after he suffered the stroke and some flashbacks of his early contributions in the fashion industry in France and the world over.

Literature is developed in the movie; this is when the movie shows that jean- Dominique is able to write his own book through the aid of his speech therapist known as Sandrine Fichou taking the name of Henriette in the film (Schnabel, 2007).
